School-based apprenticeships

School based apprenticeships and traineeships give students the opportunity to earn a wage, gain hands on experience in the workforce and helps them get a head start in their career.

Students start an apprenticeship or traineeship while still at school, usually spending one day a week in the workplace and the rest of the time at school, combining training with their school studies.

This industry specific training is undertaken through TAFE or another registered training organisation providing credits toward their SACE. School based trainees and apprentices work towards achieving nationally recognised qualifications that can lead to further training, education and employment.

This can also be of great benefit to employers whereby they can employ a student part time and build a base for future skilled staff in their business.

Students have undertaken apprenticeships or traineeships in Agriculture, Children’s Services, Customer Contact, Information Technology, Racing (stable hand) and Hairdressing.
